FROM THE HEART celebrates the 150th anniversary years of the composers Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Louise Farrenc. 

Samuel Coleridge-Taylors Nonet op.2 was written when the composer was still a student at the Royal College of Music, barely 19 years old, yet in already carries some of the hallmarks of a musician who would go on to the dubbed a ‘genius’ by his peers and admired by contempories including Elgar. Full of energy and expressive melodic invention this early gem offers a fascinating glimpse of his compositional beginnings and the composer who would be internationally celebrated.

Louise Farrencs Nonet is a landmark of 19th century chamber music, blending winds and strings in a piece that is beautifully crafted giving each instrument its moment inthe spotlight. First performed by some of the lading soloists of the day this work helped secure Farrencs reputation as one of the leading composers of her generation.

The Sabi Ensemble was founded in 2024 by historical double bass and violone player Carina Cosgrave to bring together world-class musicians in a shared mission: to rediscover and celebrate historically forgotten composers on period instruments. With curious, joyful performances, Sabi Ensemble brings these historically lost voices to life, sharing both their music and their stories.
